Many people consider college to be a necessity.  There are, however, both pros and cons to going to these institutions of higher learning.  The following are some points to consider.

Pros

You will learn more

At college you will learn about many different things.  You can have four more years of instruction and become knowledgeable in many different fields.  Many people want this education to further themselves.

It can help you get a job

A lot of employers will not even consider someone who does not have a college degree.  This is especially true in a difficult economy.  You will find many more opportunities with this degree.  A lot of the more complex and interesting jobs are the ones that require college, so you may otherwise have a job that is simpler and not as interesting.

Not only will you have more jobs for which you can apply, you are likely to make more money with a college degree.  A lot of the higher paying jobs require this educations.  Without a degree many of the fields will be out of reach and you may be stuck with a less lucrative position.

Others may think more of you

A lot of people make assumptions about people who do and do not go to college.  They may think more of someone who has.  They may believe that you are smarter.  Also, many people want a mate who has gone to college.  If you are looking for a relationship some people may only accept you if you have been to college.

Cons

It is usually expensive

Most colleges are far from cheap.  They cost thousands, tens of thousands and in some cases hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Many people start out in debt after college.

It is often difficult

A lot of people simply do not want to sit through hours and hours of instruction anymore.  It can be a lot of work filled with studying, tests and so forth.  After many years of already doing this, many people are ready to move on to something else.

You may not be able to earn money right away

Many people would prefer to jump right into a full time job so that they can earn money.  That is difficult to do if you are in a full time college.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to going to college.  Weight both when making your decision.
